Oh, king eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.
Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony
Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help! Help! I'm being repressed!

Who do you think writes the tax code then votes it into law, D sure not any of the poor or working class, tax cuts help tax codes hurt, do away with the major loop holes, we all pay the same tax rate buying gas, food, utility's why not pay a same flat tax rate on our $$$$

Along those lines, why not just do away with an income tax

entirely and have a federal sales tax, instead? Those who make more spend more and, therefore, pay more tax. Simple solution to the whole mess and a whole lot of politicians become unnecessary.

Not that I am opposed to a federal sales tax, but your underlying assumption isn't really true. The lower the income the higher the the percentage of total income spent on retail goods. Lower income families who currently pay no federal taxes or even receive credits above their payments back would see their tax burden rise substantially - which is why it has no support within the democratic party. The wealthy tie their money up in investments that are not subject to sales taxes. I am all for federal sales tax (but only at the exclusion of income tax - there is a nightmare scenario where we see both and it is increasingly inevitable with rising deficit) or a "flat tax" income tax but either one would shift more responsibility to lower income earners than our current system.

I knew someone would point that out. The solution to that is simple, too. Provide an exemption for families whose income is at or below the poverty line. Also, exempt certain necessities, such as groceries.

I hate to tell you, but there is no free lunch! Everyone should pay taxes. That gives you the privilege to live here. If you don't want to pay your share of taxes go elsewhere and good luck. The more you "give away" the more people use the system, until you go under as a society. I f you don't want to work, that is your choice, but dont expect others to give you anything.

I can write a fair tax law in Two sentences. "All people, corporations, trust funds, churches, businesses, conglomerates, and endowments shall pay a yearly tax of 17 percent of their income to the federal government. There shall be no exemptions, credits or deductions."
Now, you will pay based on your earnings and everyones percentage will be the same. If you earn more you pay more, and if you earn less you pay less. Period!
